A 6-3, 208-pound safety out of Crean Lutheran in Altadena, Benefield started three seasons at Boise State and piled up 174 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and five interceptions before transferring to LSU in January 2026. His 2025 was the breakout — 76 tackles, seven TFL, two picks, first-team All-Mountain West and MVP of the conference title game — and he arrived in Baton Rouge as a preseason second-team AP All-American.
