Hamilton played safety at 6-4, 220 with the range of a center fielder and the pop of a linebacker, and Notre Dame moved him everywhere. Deep middle, two-high halves, robber looks, the slot over tight ends and true box snaps came in the same afternoon, and the picture rarely told the quarterback anything before the snap.
Against the run he was a willing force player who slipped blocks with long arms and tackled through contact. Hamilton entered the 2022 class as a three-year Notre Dame starter and the highest-graded safety scouts had evaluated in years, a defensive coordinator's toy rather than a positional fit. He started as a true freshman, was a two-time FWAA first-team All-American and a consensus All-American in 2021, and played every coverage role the program owned.
His production told the story of a player offenses learned to avoid: eight interceptions and 16 pass breakups in 31 games, including a four-pick freshman season, plus 138 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss from deep and box alignments. A knee injury cut 2021 to seven games, which thinned the senior tape without softening the grade. The flags were a 4.59 forty, occasional overaggression on early reads, and doubt about whether he was a deep safety or a hybrid.
The board had him as a top-five talent whose position kept sliding him. Safeties get devalued in the top ten, and that math, plus the injury and the forty, dropped him to Baltimore at 14. Kyle Hamilton has played two seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, quickly becoming a versatile and impactful safety. He earned a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro selection in his second season.
Baltimore did exactly what the industry expected and used Hamilton as a movable piece rather than a fixed free safety. He played 16 games as a rookie in 2022, mostly in sub packages and around the line of scrimmage, finishing with 62 tackles, two sacks and five pass breakups while making the PFWA All-Rookie Team. The full unlock came in 2023: 81 tackles, three sacks, ten tackles for loss, four interceptions and 13 pass breakups, first-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl. Baltimore leaned into the nickel-safety hybrid role, letting him blitz, cover tight ends and rotate to the post from the same alignment. He followed it with 107 tackles and second-team All-Pro in 2024, then 105 tackles and another first-team All-Pro nod in 2025.
In hindsight the fourteenth pick looks like a bargain and a small indictment of how the league prices safeties.
