Brendan Sorsby Sidelined As 2027 QB Class Takes Shape
The NFL’s decision to forgo a 2026 supplemental draft forces a much-discussed quarterback prospect into a year of uncertainty, reshaping future draft classes.
The biggest news this week is the league's decision not to hold a supplemental draft. That move forces quarterback Brendan Sorsby to sit out the 2026 season and prepare for the 2027 NFL Draft. Had there been a supplemental draft, we were projecting him as a potential Day 3 pick.
His forced entry into the 2027 class adds another complex variable to a quarterback group that already holds significant intrigue. It’s a development that will have ripple effects for the next few draft cycles.
Storylines
The 2027 quarterback question just got more interesting. Brendan Sorsby's unexpected entry puts him on a collision course with names like Arch Manning (#10). This adds a fascinating layer to the class, though Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has indicated that Manning himself is not a lock to declare, which adds another wrinkle to future evaluations.
The Rams are clearly going all-in on winning now. Their trade for Myles Garrett, in which they sent pass rusher Jared Verse and draft capital to the Browns, is a massive bet. They are prioritizing Garrett's proven, elite finishing ability over future assets, believing he’s the final piece for a championship run.
We’ve completed a new evaluation on Louisville running back Isaac Brown, and we project him as a potential top-50 pick. His profile is built on explosive acceleration and his value as a receiver out of the backfield. The critical evaluation points for us moving forward will be his durability and whether he can improve in pass protection.
Board moves
We have movement at the very top of our board this week. We’ve moved Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith to #1 overall, a rare ascent for a wide receiver but one that reflects his remarkable athletic profile.
His Ohio State teammate, quarterback Julian Sayin, also climbs into our top ten at #6. Further down, Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons moves up to #16. Not everyone is rising, however. We’ve dropped Indiana offensive tackle Carter Smith to #14 and Texas receiver Cam Coleman to #23.
Keep an eye on a sleeper we’ve been monitoring, Mississippi State cornerback Kelley Jones. He’s a name to watch after breaking into our top 40 this week at #39.
Watchlist
- Arch Manning (#10, QB, Texas) — With the 2027 quarterback class now officially on the clock, his development becomes one of the most scrutinized storylines in the sport for our team.
- Isaac Brown (UR, RB, Louisville) — After our analysis highlighted his speed and receiving ability, we’ll be watching to see if his frame can handle a three-down workload and if his pass protection improves.
- Dylan Stewart (#12, EDGE, South Carolina) — An early scouting report from our team is out on the highly-ranked edge defender, and our focus is now on his technical refinement heading into the season.
