Five Prospects the Combine Cannot Explain on Its Own
Wilkins, Kupp, Renfrow, Donald and Ross reveal five different testing lessons.
The argument against reducing a prospect to a workout should not depend on misreporting the workout. These five historical players are useful precisely because they do not tell the same story. One had substantial college production alongside his testing. Another combined an ordinary straight-line time with a different kind of athletic question. A third had extensive experience at his eventual job. A fourth was an outstanding tester, not an example of athletic failure.
The fifth offered genuine speed whose value still needed a football and medical context.
That distinction matters for a 2027 watchlist in June. These are completed historical evaluations, not five members of the upcoming class who have already taken their NFL combine tests. Their use is to clarify the questions, not to manufacture testing results or unnamed future starters.
